A short film by Alison Hutcheson / Woods Noble Video
What you probably do know is how easily some umbrellas can break. We thought they deserved a second chance.
Umbrella fabric is particularly polluting because it is made from nylon or polyester, which is essentially plastic. Even once stripped off from the frame, the fabric retains good showerproof properties. It is also strong and durable. This makes perfect material for everyday accessories like bags and purses – of the kind that will last a lifetime.
We're currently working to develop a network of local drop-off points around Glasgow. Make sure you check back regularly as we add new partners.
If you live too far from any drop-off point, drop us a line and we'll arrange to collect your broken umbrellas as quickly as possible.
The fabric is stripped from the umbrella frame, then machine washed using a Guppyfriend™ Washing Bag to reduce microplastic pollution.
Meet the brolibag! A showerproof totebag that's strong, stylish and fully reversible.
We like to mix and match colours and patterns so that every piece is unique.
Offcuts are used to make smaller pieces like these snap purses - ideal for coins or earphones!
Although we're working to develop product lines which repurpose part of the metal frame, we are essentially focusing on reusing the fabric. That's why we are partnering with ANTI, innovative designers who create stylish architect lamps from unwanted umbrella frames. We're looking for more partners to donate metal frames to so please get in touch if you are interested.
