My name is Laurence and I'm the designer, maker and social entrepreneur behind mice & meys and RE-BROLLY. I'm hoping to contribute at a small local scale to reducing textile waste and plastic pollution, and to making us all more aware that what we buy doesn't have to be disposable.

The name might not make much sense to you, but these two words mean a lot to me. They bring back fond memories of two lovely sewing ladies who are sadly no longer with us. One friend and one family, both incredibly big-hearted. I was left with some of their fabric and sewing stuff which I still use today.
In 2019, I left France to move to Scotland. While packing I found a number of broken umbrellas stacked in a corner of my tiny Parisian flat. I’d been keeping them over the years either because I loved the print, or because I was annoyed that they’d broken so quickly. And in any case, putting an umbrella in the bin just didn’t feel right. I cut off the fabric from the frame and started thinking of how to repurpose it. Having moved to Glasgow, I noticed that discarded brollies were sadly a common sight on the streets. Gradually the ideas of giving broken umbrellas a second chance and reducing waste and litter came together, and the brolibag was born. And what better climate than Scotland’s to try this all out!
